That's right, I said it. You will never be fulfilled by Jesus here on earth. If want to hear the explanation to this seemingly heretical statement, you are going to have to watch this video:
From what I understand, this is a major gist of Donald Miller's new book A Million Miles In A Thousand Years. I want to read it, bad. And I agree.
Jesus is the climax of my life, but not while I am here on earth. Not until glory. If he is the climax in this life, then what's with all this troublesome and ridiculous and difficult crap I have to deal with!?! That is no falling action. That's a crappy denouement. And God doesn't do crappy.

It's true that we're not completed or whole until glory but when I heard him speak, I got the impression from him that we're just left hanging completely, empty and suffering alone, until then. Building a relationship with God enables us to endure suffering and grow in holiness and all that jazz. I didn't watch the clip because the volume's really low on it and i don't feel like hooking it up to speakers and i already saw his talk... and i know you already know this but I was just a little put off at the time, just a weensy bit, and maybe I'm wrong and he actually does say that?
ReplyDeleteI can see what your saying, and at first I would have agreed, but he is not saying that Jesus doesn't provide any fulfillment.
ReplyDeleteHis main point is that we act like once Jesus comes into our lives on this earth, we are supposed to be 100% fulfilled 100% of the time, and that just doesn't happen to anyone this side of glory.
